In this Newsletter:
➡️ What is glutathione and why it matters
➡️ Signs of low glutathione and aging impact
➡️ Natural ways to boost your glutathione
➡️ Supplements, IVs & what to know before using them
Recently, I’ve had quite a few people ask me: “What is glutathione, and should I be taking it?”
It’s a great question — because glutathione is one of the most important molecules in the body, yet very few people know about it.
Over the years, I’ve done a lot to support my own glutathione levels — from dietary strategies and supplements to IV drips and targeted precursors like NAC. It’s become one of my go-to tools for recovery, detox, and overall resilience.
So in today’s newsletter, I’m breaking it all down: what glutathione actually is, why it matters for energy, immunity, and aging — and how to support it naturally.
🧬 What is Glutathione?
Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant your body makes naturally from three amino acids: glutamine, cysteine, and glycine.
It’s present in nearly every cell and does a lot of heavy lifting:
Neutralizes free radicals and oxidative stress
Supports liver detox pathways
Protects brain and mitochondrial function
Strengthens immune system
Helps repair damaged cells and DNA
Think of it as your cellular shield — constantly defending you from toxins, stress, and aging.
📉 What Happens When Glutathione Is Low
Glutathione levels decline with age, chronic illness, toxin exposure, and persistent stress.
Low levels can leave you feeling:
Tired or foggy all the time
Sensitive to alcohol, smells, or pollution
Prone to skin issues or acne
Slow to recover from workouts or illness
Inflamed or puffy
Easily triggered by stress
It’s like having your body’s internal clean-up crew on strike — damage builds up faster than you can repair it.
🌱 Natural Ways to Support Glutathione
Before reaching for supplements, here’s how to support your body’s own glutathione production:
Eat sulfur-rich foods
– Garlic, onions, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts - crucial for glutathione synthesis
Sleep well
– Your glutathione production and recycling happens during deep sleep
Move your body
– Moderate exercise boosts glutathione and antioxidant capacity
Minimize alcohol and toxins
– Glutathione gets rapidly used up to process alcohol, BPA, mold, heavy metals, etc.
Manage stress
– Chronic stress depletes glutathione precursors and ramps up oxidative load
Get antioxidants from food
– Berries, green tea, turmeric, vitamin C-rich fruits help recycle used glutathione
👉 Pro Tip: Focus on building resilience — not just avoiding toxins. Your body was designed to detox, but only if you support it.
💊 Let’s Talk Glutathione Supplements
There are three main ways to support glutathione through supplementation:
➡️ Glutathione Precursors
These provide the building blocks your body needs to make its own glutathione. Often more effective than taking glutathione directly.
NAC (N-Acetylcysteine)
A well-researched precursor that supports your body’s glutathione production.
Supports detoxification, liver function, respiratory health, and immunity
Widely used in functional medicine protocols
Glycine
Works synergistically with NAC to help restore glutathione levels.
Often deficient in people with chronic inflammation or oxidative stress
Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA)
Acts both as a direct antioxidant and a glutathione recycler.
Supports mitochondrial function, cognitive clarity, and blood sugar regulation
Why use precursors?
They give your body the raw materials it needs to produce glutathione at the right pace — without overwhelming the system.
➡️ Direct Glutathione Supplements
These provide glutathione itself. Absorption and effectiveness depend on the delivery method.
Liposomal Glutathione
Encapsulated in fat molecules to enhance absorption through the gut.
Shown to be more bioavailable than standard oral glutathione
Commonly used for brain, skin, and liver support
Sublingual Glutathione
Held under the tongue to bypass digestion.
May be helpful for those with gut absorption issues
Still limited data on systemic effectiveness
Topical Glutathione
Applied directly to the skin.
Sometimes used for skin health or brightening
Likely offers limited systemic absorption, but may support local antioxidant protection
👉 Note: While direct forms can be helpful, they may not be as efficient at raising intracellular glutathione levels as precursors.
➡️ IV Glutathione Therapy
Glutathione delivered directly into the bloodstream.
Often used in advanced detox protocols or recovery treatments.
Fast and effective absorption
Common in mold recovery, oxidative stress, and post-NAD+ therapy protocols
Sessions typically take 10–30 minutes
Things to consider:
May cause mild detox symptoms, especially if drainage pathways aren’t supported
Can be costly and is usually best reserved for short-term or acute use
Should be supervised by a healthcare professional
👉 Pro Tip: For best results, pair IV glutathione with proper hydration, liver support, and antioxidant nutrients like vitamin C.
⚠️ Is It Safe?
In most cases, yes — but not for everyone.
Glutathione supports all cells, including potentially cancerous ones. Individuals with active cancer or undergoing cancer treatment should consult their oncologist before use
Overuse may interfere with redox balance and suppress beneficial oxidative signals needed for healing or immune function
Start low, monitor your response, and always consult a qualified practitioner — especially if you’re dealing with chronic illness, mold toxicity, or autoimmunity. Always work with your doctor if unsure.
🔑 Protect Your Cells, Live Longer
Supporting glutathione is about giving your body the tools to heal, repair, and defend itself.
You don’t need to do it all at once. Start here:
Add cruciferous veggies to your meals
Prioritize quality sleep
Try NAC + glycine before trying IVs
Reduce your toxic burden, gently
Whether you choose lifestyle upgrades, a daily supplement, or an occasional IV — there’s a lot you can do starting today to protect your cells.
Warmly,
Viktorija 💛
